About Us

  Bloomfield Urban Initiative Inc. (BUI) was founded in 1994 under the name of Bloomfield Urban Ministries, Inc. 

   The organization was founded by Rev. Ralph White. The organization got busy servicing the Riverview/Kanas community by providing Day Care for the children and job  opportunities for adults. In 2015 the organization was re-named. Although the organization no longer provides child care serves, Bloomfield Urban Initiative Inc. is dedicated to insuring that needed services are available to the youth in the community. 

   Our  objective is to meet the challenges and provide opportunities for the youth in the community to  succeed academically as well as personally.    

   While mentoring, outreach, recreation and education are the main components of the organization, BUI is committed to building relationships and engaging the youth in the community. There are many challenges and opportunities in the inner city. The majority of the student that participate in the BUI programs, come from a single-parent/guardian, low income households which adds to limited time and resources that are needed to assure that the youth have full access to everything needed to thrive to their full potential. 

    This organization is a recognized 501(c) (3) based in Memphis, TN and serves youth in the 38109 community.
